CW has released their first look at upcoming series Riverdale, based on the Archie comics.
The newest trailer shows off what CW does best, drama, mystery, and of course, the all important topless male. Created by the people who brought you The Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl, Riverdale brings to life the characters from one of the longest running brands in comic history, with a dark twist.
The show will re-introduce comic characters Archie, Betty, Veronica, and friends, and will depict the strange darkness lurking behind Riverdale’s wholesome exterior.
Riverdale premieres on CW in 2017 to coincide the Archie character’s 75th anniversary
Meet the Characters in the upcoming series:
Archie Andrews (K.J. Apa)
K.J. Apa (Shortland Street, The Cul De Sac) takes the role of Archie, a comic character developed in 1941. In the original comics, Archie is described as a well-liked, friendly mannered, and clumsy small town teen who has a crush on Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper. Attending Riverdale High School, the character spends his spare time singing for the garage band The Archies .
Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart)
Lili Reinhart (Miss Stevens, The Kings of Summer) plays Betty Cooper. In the comics Betty is described as a typical girl next door from a middle-class family. Unlike her friend and rival Veronica, Betty can’t afford a flashy lifestyle. Both Betty and Veronica compete for Archie’s interest.
Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes)
Up-and-coming Actress Camila Mendes plays rich girl Veronica Lodge. In the original comics, Veronica is the daughter of the richest man in Riverdale, and favours expensive makeup and high-end fashion.
Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse)
Actor Cole Sprouse well known for his role in Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and A Suite Suite Life on Deck, plays Jughead Jones. In the original comics, Judgehead Jones is Archie’s best friend. Smart, snarky and laidback, he has an obsession with food and a disinterest in romance.
Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)
Madelaine Petsch (The Curse of Sleeping Beauty, The Hive) plays Cheryl Blossom, the rich daughter of a Software Engineer. She was introduced in the original comics in 1982 alongside her twin brother, but was later removed from the comics for being deemed ‘inappropriate’. She was re-introduced in 1994.
Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray)
Ashleigh Murray (Welcome to Newyork, Grind) plays Josie McCoy. In the original comics, Josie McCoy was depicted as a levelheaded red-head, who is the lead singer of Josie and the Pussycats.
Reggie Mantle (Ross Butler)
Ross Butler (Thirteen Reasons Why, Teen Wolf) plays Reggie Mantle. In the original comics, Reggie Mantle is described to as snobby upper-class kid from Texas. He is depicted as an inspiring journalist whose dad owns the newspaper-publishing company The Riverdale Gazette
Kevin Keller (Casey Cott)
Up-and-Coming Actor Casey Cott plays Kevin Keller. In the comics, Kevin Keller is described as a ‘Military brat’. Kevin is openly gay, and the best friend of Veronica.
