Author Veronica Roth, known for her best-selling series Divergent, has released the trailer for her forthcoming novel Carve the Mark, the first book in the science-fiction fantasy duology.
Marketed as a cross between Star Wars and Divergent, the novel takes place on an alternate planet, where violence and vengeance rule.
Carve the Mark takes you on a journey into a world where everyone has a unique gift called a ‘currentgift’. Instead of benefiting from their gifts like most, the two protagonist’s currentgift’s make them vulnerable to others’ control.
Much like the Divergent series, in Carve the Mark we follow two people whose abilities set them apart from the rest of the world, whilst putting them in danger.
Cyra is the sister of a brutal tyrant, who exploits her power. Bringing both pain and power, Cyra’s currentgift is used to torture her brothers’ enemies. Akos is kind and loyal family member, who lives in a peace-loving nation and is protected by an unusual ability. When he and his brother are captured by soldiers, he will do anything to get his brother out alive. Propelled into Cyra’s world, both Akos and Cyra must decide whether to help each other or destroy each other.
While Carve the Mark certainly seems intriguing, the jury is out on whether the novel will provide a refreshing story, or Divergent 2.0:Space Edition.
‘Carve the Mark’ is expected to be released on January 17th 2017.
