Okay, so it may not technically be Cara Delevingne, but the mummy featured in the newest The Mummy trailer looks a whole lot like her take on the Enchantress in Suicide Squad.
The first official trailer for the Universal Pictures’ The Mummy has dropped, and it is definitely bringing a new action-packed twist to 1999 franchise, as well as an interesting choice of costume for the main villain.
While the newest trailer looks promising, it is hard to get past the striking similarities between the monster in The Mummy and Suicide Squads‘ Enchantrance, and it seems like we aren’t the only ones seeing some major similarities.
Starring Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella, the reboot is the first film in the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. The Universal Monster series will see a shared universe of action/horror adventure reboots bringing back classics, The Mummy, Van Helsing, Frankenstein’s Monster, Count Dracula, The Wolf Man, Gill-man, The Invisible Man and The Bride of Frankenstein.
The Universal Monster Cinematic Universe will see, Noah Hawley (Fargo), Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners), Ed Solomon (Men in Black, Now You See Me), Chris Morgan (The Fast and The Furious), as well as The Mummy Director, Alex Kurtzman (Star Tek, The Amazing Spider-Man) collectively act as writers for the reboots, tying the films together.
The prospect of the return of some of our favourite horror films is exciting, but it is still yet to be seen whether Universal Pictures will deliver in creating a satisfactory reboot and a believable universe, or whether the new films will fall short of fan expectation.
The Mummy is expected to premiere on June 9, 2017.
