You may have heard that R.L. Stine, Author of the beloved spooky children’s series, Goosebumps, has been teasing a collab project with Marvel comics. Today, the wait to find out what R.L. Stine has been up to is over. Marvel has announced that they will be teaming up with children’s horror genius, Stine, to bring a new Man-Thing mini-series.
Man-Thing is a fictional monster created by Stan Lee, Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway. The creepy character first appeared in the Marvel comic Savage Tales in may 1971, before being featured in various other titles including the horror comic book series Adventure into Fear. However, the character is perhaps best known for being included in Steve Gerber’s 39-issue series, which brought inspiration to renowned Authors such as Neil Gaiman.
Man-Thing is a former scientist turned swamp monster. The creature secretes a poisonous chemical in response to those who feel fear, burning anyone he clutches with the emotion, hence the series tagline, “Whatever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing”.
“R.L. Stine in the Marvel Universe – that’s an event in and of itself,” says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “And is there a Marvel character more perfectly suited to his sensibilities than the monstrous Man-Thing? Stine and artist German Peralta are spinning a tale full of action, horror, humour and heart – one that’s sure to please R.L. Stine fans, Man-Thing fans, and new fans.”
Alongside the exciting project, each issue of R.L. Stine’s Man-Thing will include a ‘bone-chilling’ original horror short from Stine, which will be illustrated by a rotating crew of artists.
Man-Thing issue #1 will be released in March 2017.
