Warner Bros. has unveiled the first official extended Dunkirk trailer. Written and Directed by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar), the epic World War II film depicts a pivotal moment in history.
Based off of the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation, the film recounts the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force and Allied troops from the French seaport Dunkirk. Both Naval vessels and civilian boats were used in the evacuation, which began on May 26. Around 198,000 British and 140,000 French and Belgian troops were rescued from a Nazi Offensive, in an evacuation that lasted until June 4, little over a week after it began.
The highly anticipated film stars big names, Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception), Cillian Murphy (Inception, The Dark Knight), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, The BFG), and of course, the film debut of One Direction singer Harry Styles.
The impressive upcoming film was shot by Interstellar cinematographer, Hoyte van Hoytema, on 65mm large format film stock, and IMAX. Depicting massive explosions and heart-wrenching scenes of troops fighting for survival, Dunkirk’s first trailer is a promising peak into what is to come.
Dunkirk is expected to premiere July 21, 2016.
