Emergency Broadcast: Announcing the release date of the annual Purge.
Universal Pictures has announced that the fourth film in The Purge franchise will be released Wednesday, July 4, 2018. The untitled film will once again be produced by Jason Blum (Insidious, Whiplash), Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon), Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ouija: Origin of Evil), as well as Sébastien K. Lemercier.
Long running creator of the franchise James DeMonaco will be returning as a writer for the fourth film, however, he will be leaving his post as Director. Instead, DeMonaco will work closely with Producers to find a new Director for the film.
While very little confirmed details have been released about the film’s plot, in an early Interview with Cinema Blend in November last year DeMonaco revealed that fans might finally get some background on the purge with a prequel.
“That seems the natural next chapter in this, is to say, ‘Alright, we’ve done this trilogy. We see how it got to this point of someone trying to end it – this presidential figure,” said DeMonaco.
“Now let’s go back and see how the fuck all this came about.’ How did this country get to a place where we were now accepting this kind of atrocity, this terrible thing, each year? I think there’s something interesting in that.”
