Following her stunning performance of How Far I’ll Go from Disney’s newest animated feature Moana at this year’s Oscars, Auli’i Cravalho has been cast to star in a new NBC pilot, Drama High, from Jason Katims (executive producer and showrunner of Friday Night Lights) and Jeffrey Seller (producer of Hamilton).
Deadline has announced that the 16-year-old Moana star has landed a leading role in the new NBC pilot. Drama High tells the story of high school drama teacher Lou Volpe. The TV pilot is based on a true story chronicled in the book by the same name, which came out in 2013 and was written by one of Volpe’s former students Michael Sokolove.
The NBC theatre Pilot follows the story of how the passionate and dedicated high school drama teacher and family man, Lou Volpe, encourages the drama department from a working-class school, and the incredible students, to come to life.
In her small-screen debut, Auli’i Cravalho will play a high school student named Lilette.
Further casting news of NBC’s pilot to be announced.
