Fans of Victoria Schwab and her newest fantasy series A Darker Shade of Magic will be happy to know that the fantasy world will be coming to the screen, with Gerard Butler and Author Victoria Schwab set to produce.
After what Hollywood Reporter describes as a long bidding war, negotiation for the A Darker Shade of Magic adaptation have been won by Sony, with Gerard Butler (Law Abiding Truth, The Ugly Truth) on board to produce alongside Alan Siegel, Danielle Robinson and Victoria Schwab herself.
Since its release in 2015, the rights to the books have been available for adaptation and studios such as Sony, Fox 2000, eOne as well as Lionsgate have been rumoured to be trying to get their hands on this new adventure series.
Schwab’s Shades Of Magic series follows Kell, a magician with the ability to travel between parallel London’s, in this case four of them; Grey London, where residents believe magic is a myth, Red London, where magic is approved of and admired, White London, where magic is fought over and against and lastly, Black London, the place where no one dares to go. The story begins when Kell meets a pickpocket named Delilah as they are both whisked into a universe-hopping adventure.
Since the release first book A Darker Shade of Magic, two other books in the series have been released, A Gathering of Shadows, and A Conjuring of Light, which would make for a perfect film franchise.
It is said that filmmakers are lining up for a chance to put their stamp on this new project, but no further decisions have been made.
