Two-time Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao (The Nice Guys), and production company Anonymous Content, are set to produce a film adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s New York Times bestselling graphic novel The Underwater Welder.
The graphic novel follows protagonist Jack Joseph, who has the dangerous job of being an underwater welder on an oilrig off the coast of Nova Scotia. The soon-to-be father pulls away from his young wife and unborn son the deeper he dives. One Night on the icy ocean floor something unexplainable happens. Jack has a supernatural encounter that will change his life forever.
The graphic novel is described as a mystery that explores the topic of fathers and sons, birth and death, memory and reality, and the treasures we all bury deep bellow the surface.
Gosling and Kao worked together on the film The Nice Guys, with Kao acting as the film’s Producer and Gosling taking the lead role.
The production and management company Anonymous Content have worked on films and television series such as Mr. Robot, The Revenant, two-time Oscar-Award winning film Spotlight, The OA and Netflix’s upcoming series 13 Reasons Why.
Actors, Directors and potential Screenwriters for the film adaptation of The Underwater Welder have yet to be announced.
