The first photo of Lin-Manuel Miranda in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns has landed. The amazingly talented Actor, Composer, Producer, and Writer won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his work on the broadway musical Hamilton, and in addition, has under his belt two Grammy awards, a Primetime Emmy award, and of course, an Oscar nomination.
Miranda plays Mary’s lamplighter friend Jack in the highly anticipated sequel. The film is set twenty years after the events in Mary Poppins, in Depression-era London. Mary, with the help of Jack (you know what they say, a spoonful of sugar…), meet with the now grown Jane and Michael Banks, and Bank’s three children, to help them overcome a personal loss and bring the magic and wonder back into their lives.
Jack is comparable to Dick Van Dyke’s Bert character the chimney sweep, from the original 1964 film, hopefully minus the terrible Cockney accent.
Not much is known about the Disney film, but with Miranda’s amazing talent we wouldn’t be surprised if he is involved in the soundtrack for the Mary Poppins sequel.
Mary Poppins Returns is Directed by Rob Marshall, written by David Magee and based on the books by P.L. Travers.
The film will be released on Christmas Day 2018.
The A-list cast also includes Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, and Angela Lansbury.
