The publishing companies Scribner and Hodder & Stoughton have announced the official publication date for Stephen King and Son Owen King‘s co-written supernatural horror, Sleeping Beauties.
In their provocative upcoming title, Stephen and Owen King tell the highest of high stake stories: what would happen if women disappeared from the world of men.
Sleeping Beauties takes place in a future where something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cacoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent.
Sleeping Beauties’ publication announcement certainly comes at a topical time, with the news arriving nearly a week after the global movement #ADayWithoutAWoman saw women from around the globe come together to stand up for the important role women play in society.
In the father and son team’s co-written title, the men of the world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.
“Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?”
The book is set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women’s prison.
Sleeping Beauties is set for release September 26, 2017
