A war of deities is brewing as Starz releases a blood-soaked trailer for their upcoming series American Gods. If the trailer is anything to go by, the upcoming adaptation seems to have gotten the Game of Throne’s treatment featuring copious amounts of gore, brutal violence and of course, a ferocious bid to reclaim power.
The upcoming series is based on the Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker-award winning novel American Gods by Author Neil Gaiman. The book combines gods and mythology with a healthy dose of Americana.
The series is created by Bryan Fuller who is best known for the television shows Hannibal and Dead Like Me, and Michael Green who worked on the script for Logan.
The series stars Ricky Whittle (Hollyoaks, The 100), Ian McShane (Dead Wood), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, A Series of Unfortunate Events), Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black) and Bruce Langley.
The show follows Shadow Moon (Whittle) who, following his release from prison, finds his life turned upside down. His wife (Browning) has been killed and a mysterious stranger, Mr. Wednesday (McShane) offers him a job. But, a war is brewing — a battle for the very soul of America and they are in its direct path, and Shadow finds himself in a centre of a world he struggles to understand. A world where magic is real, where Old Gods fear the growing power of the new gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build an alliance of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence they’ve lost. Meanwhile, along their travels, Shadow Moon struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.
American Gods will premiere on Starz on April 30. The series will have eight episodes in total.
