Following the announcement of Peter Capaldi‘s impending departure from the sci-fi series Doctor Who, there has been a Tardis load of speculation about who might take the actor’s place.
Now, the writer of the series, Toby Whithouse, has announced his ideal candidate.
In an Interview with Digital Spy, Doctor Who writer Toby Whithouse described the Being Human star Damien Molony as a perfect candidate to succeed Peter Capaldi as Time Lord. Having also penned the Popular BBC3 series Being Human, Whitehouse has witnessed Molony’s acting talent first hand.
”Damien Molony, who was on Being Human, I’ve always thought he’d be terrific,” said Whithouse.
“He’s a fantastic actor. My ideal choice would either be Damien or Chiwetel Ejiofor, who I think would be absolutely terrific.”
The Oscar nominated Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is known for his role in 12 Years a Slave, is rumoured to have been offered the role of Time Lord in the past. However, this remains speculation.
While Toby Whithouse gave his thoughts on who should take up the role of Time Lord, he also praised Peter Capaldi, who will continue exploring space and time until his last hurrah in this year’s Christmas special.
“I think that Peter’s been absolutely incredible as the Doctor. I’ve got to know him quite well over the time I’ve been working on the show and he’s just the loveliest guy you’ll ever meet,” said Whithouse.
“I think it’s a real shame, but I completely understand it – he came on to the show to work with Steven. But he’s an amazing ambassador for the show – because this is something that’s been so important to him for all of his life, he understands the importance of the show and just how treasured and loved it is.”
