It has been announced that Gwendoline Christie, best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth on the Golden Globe award-winning show, Game of Thrones, is in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming sci-fi film The Darkest Minds.
The film is Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda) and is an adaption of the young-adult novel of the same name by best-selling Author Alexandra Bracken, who is onboard to pen the film’s script.
Gwendoline Christie will be the newest addition to the already impressive cast, which includes, Hunger Games Actress Amandla Stenberg best known for her role as Rue, Golden Globe award-winning Mandy Moore (Tangled, The Princess Diaries), Patrick Gibson (The OA), Harris Dickinson (Silent Witness), Skylan Brooks (The Get Down), Miya Cech (American Horror Story) and Lidya Jewett (Hidden Figures).
The Darkest Minds takes place in a Dystopian world where a disease has killed 98% of America’s children. The surviving 2% develop superpowers and are placed in internment camps where unnatural powers can only be described by color.
The story follows 16-year-old Ruby (Stenberg) who escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government.
If negotiations go through, Christie will play a villainous bounty hunter tasked with capturing the fugitive teens.
The Darkest Minds is expected to hit cinemas September 14, 2018.
