It’s not often that we get to see an action movie with a strong female lead, but it looks like that’s exactly what we’re going to get with Atomic Blonde.
In the trailer released today, we see Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) taking down her enemies with ease and taking care of business with a confident nonchalance. The movie, based on Antony Johnston‘s 2012 graphic novel The Coldest City, also stars James McAvoy and John Goodman, with David Leitch directing solo for the first time.
Of course, we can’t have a female spy without some sex appeal, so there’s the token lingerie scene (imperative to the mission I’m sure), and a racy scene with another female agent.
Whether she is learning of a friend’s death, or beating someone to death with a high heel, Broughton is calm and collected, and it looks like Theron really owns this role.
Atomic Blonde is set to hit US cinemas on the 28 July, Australian cinemas on August 3, and UK cinemas August 11.
