Starz has released a featurette for the television adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s bestselling novel American Gods, which shows off some brand new clips from the upcoming series. Starring Ricky Whittle (The 100), Ian McShane (Deadwood), Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black), and Australian actress Emily Browning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Sucker Punch), American Gods is one of the most anticipated adaptations of 2017.
American Gods follows the story of Shadow Moon (Whittle), a man who is released from prison shortly after losing his wife, Laura (Browning). He then meets Mr. Wednesday (McShane) a mysterious hustler who offers him a job that, at first, seems like one of a regular bodyguard. He is introduced to the world of Old and New Gods, who walk among the people of Earth. These two parties are at war, and Shadow is roped into recruiting the Old Gods with Mr. Wednesday, in an attempt to reclaim their power.
Leading up to the April premiere, various trailers and mini teasers have been released by the studio to introduce both the show’s characters and the story. Starz’s new featurette features interviews from author Neil Gaiman, actors Ricky Whittle and Bruce Langley, along with executive producers Michael Green and Bryan Fuller.
“There’s a storm brewing between the New Gods and the Old. The biblical and mythical gods of old have been faded out. Nowadays we worship technology, media, money, fame,” says Whittle in the clip below.
Alongside the featurette, Starz has released a character trailer that introduces Technical Boy (Bruce Langley), one of the New Gods who is slowly but surely taking over. He represents technology and is all about “influencing opinions, behaviours, beliefs like never before.” (A topic which is quite pertinent in today’s society).
American Gods is set to air on Starz April 30. Watch the full trailer below.
