Green Room’s Callum Turner is in talks to play the brother of the acclaimed Magizoologist, Newt Scamander, in the next instalment of Warner Bros. Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, according to Variety.
While no official news has been given on who the brother is, it is safe to assume that he will play older brother and Auror Theseus Scamander, who is referenced in the first film. The character is introduced when Tina brings Newt to The Magical Congress of the United States of America, where the name ‘Scamander’ is recognised and he is promptly asked if he is Theseus Scamander ‘the war hero.’
The news comes shortly after it was announced that Jude Law will be taking on the role of young Dumbledore, and Johnny Depp will be onboard to play Grindlewald. Eddie Redmayne will return in his role as Newt Scamander in the sequel film, with David Yates returning to the director’s chair.
Author J.K. Rowling will be back on board to pen the script for the second instalment and will be joining David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram as a producer. The film takes pace in a dark time for the Wizarding World, where Newt Scamander and friends will have to decide on their allegiances.
Fantastic Beasts 2 is set in Paris but will also bring fans back to a familiar Harry Potter film location the U.K.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will begin production in August.
