The Dark Tower trailer has arrived; did you miss the easter eggs?

The Dark Tower

Yes, you heard right – the trailer for The Dark Tower is finally here!

Today, Sony Pictures unleashed the highly-anticipated first trailer for the adaption of Stephen King‘s best-selling 1986 series, just three months out from the film’s release.

The Dark Tower is expected to explore the backstory of the last Gunslinger, whilst including parts of King’s first, third and fourth novel. Following the release of two short teasers, fans of King’s novels will finally get to see Idris Elba‘s the last Gunslinger take on Matthew McConaughey‘s The Man in Black, in a bid to save the tower.

“I do not shoot with my hand, I shoot with my mind.”

“I do not kill with my gun, I kill with my heart.”

The highly-anticipated adaptation has had a confusing and long history, to say the very least.

The Dark Tower was originally announced in 2007 with JJ Abrams attached to the project. In 2010, months after Abrams announced that he will no longer be a part of the film’s production, Ron Howard took over the role. In 2015, however, the film eventually landed in the hands of Director Nikolaj Arcel, as it was announced that Sony would be fast-tracking the project with a reworked script by Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Jeff Pinkner (The 5th Wave). Since then, the release date has been pushed back twice in a bid to get the film onto the big screen. Now, there are talks of a TV adaptation, if of course, the film proves a success.

The Dark Tower sees The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey). Good and evil collide as Deschain fights for the worlds at stake.

The Dark Tower arrives August 4. Check out the trailer below:

Did you catch the easter eggs?

In addition to showing off some pretty epic scenes of chaos, The Dark Tower trailer also featured some nods to two of Stephen King‘s best-known works.

At 0:40 The Shinning gets a shoutout as a familiar looking building makes its way inside a picture frame.

At 1:30 the trailer shows off a decrepit Pennywise lookalike holding a bunch of balloons.

What are your thoughts on the long-awaited trailer?
