Marvel’s upcoming television series Inhumans has finally received a first look poster, thanks to an exclusive by EW. Originally introduced as a film, the studio scrapped the movie in favour of a series that will air in September. Inhumans will share television network ABC with fellow Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Starring Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels), Serinda Swan (Smallville, Graceland) and Iwan Rheon (Misfits, Game of Thrones), Inhumans focuses on a royal family of alien-humans who have special abilities. Black Bolt (Mount) is the head of the family, who uses his voice as a devastating power.
“It’s a little bit difficult to write him, because Black Bolt does not speak, but yet he is our hero and the center of the show, so it does certainly present challenges in how you tell his story,” Executive producer Scott Buck shares.
EW spoke to Buck at length, who describes the show as “a family drama with one big story leading us through the season”. He is especially excited about the show’s villain, Maximus – Black Bolt’s brother who wants to take over the throne.
Buck states that Maximus will diverge from comic canon, saying, “Our Maximus is a different, more complicated, more real, and more compelling version.”
The Inhumans were first introduced by Marvel in 1965, but the producers stress that this family will be much more real and grounded than what is seen in the comics. These characters will have human elements, and their powers are a part of who they are.
The poster below introduces us to the Inhumans: Gorgon (Eme Ikwuakor), Karnak (Ken Leung), Black Bolt (Mount), Medusa (Swan), Crystal (Isabelle Cornish), and Maximus (Rheon).
Inhumans will debut its first two episodes in IMAX cinemas around the world starting September 1st. The show’s television premiere will air September 26th on ABC.
