It is finally happening, the Merc with the Mouth is getting his own adult animated series!
FXX has placed a series order with Marvel television and FX productions for an animated adult Deadpool series, with Golden Globe Award Winner Donald Glover and Stephen Glover as showrunners, executive producers and writers of the series. They will be joined by Marvel’s Jeph Loeb (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Jim Chory (Daredevil) who will act as executive producers.
The unnamed Deadpool action/comedy’s first season will run for 10-episodes and will be produced by Marvel television in association with FX productions and ABC signature studios for FXX. The collaboration will be the latest partnership between Fox Studios and Marvel joining the television series Legion and The Gifted. The news was announced today by Eric Schrier and Nick Grad, Presidents of Original Programming.
Donald Glover a.k.a Childish Gambino is no stranger to sitting in the director’s chair, having created, written, and starred in the two-time Golden Globe award-winning series Atlanta, with his brother Stephen Glover who acted as a screenwriter for the series.
“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta,” said Nick Grad.
“With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”
The Chimichanga loving character’s feature film raked in nearly 800 million worldwide at Box Office last year, and the anti-hero’s fans are already sharing their excitement for the animated series to come. But one question remains…who will voice the Merc with the Mouth?
