Your favourite middle school principal is back!
FOX has confirmed that New Girl’s ragtag roommates will be back for a very short, seventh and final season.
The announcement was made via the Official New Girl Twitter account.
“It’s time to put on your cowboy hats and get down, #NewGirl fans. The loft-mates are coming BACK for Season 7!” the account tweeted.
Jake Johnson (who stars as the loveable Nick Miller), later confirmed the news and revealed that the season will be eight episodes long.
A seventh season had been looking shaky for fans – and even cast members of the show.
Just two months ago, Johnson had also tweeted of his uncertainty.
Last month’s season six finale triggered even more speculation that the comedy had run its course.
*Warning spoilers ahead!*
All of the gang seemed to be heading in a good direction. We were left with Winston (Lamorne Morris) madly in love with Aly (Nasim Pedrad) and getting in touch with his estranged father, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) expecting, and the on-again, off- again Nick and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) finally rekindling their romance.
It was nicely tied up – and intentionally so, according to showrunner Liz Meriwether. The network had instructed for the episode be written in a way that could both satisfy as the series’ end but also leave the door open for if they got renewed.
Luckily though, our girl Jess will be getting the proper send-off she deserves with a final season!
