Netflix has released a trailer for Snowpiercer director Bong Joon Ho’s Okja, which finally gives us a look at the massive animal that has won a young girls heart. The film mixes both comedy, poignancy and drama, as it tells the story of a girl’s desperate bid to save her friend from a corporation intent on serving the gentle creature on a plate.
“Our super pigs will not only be big and beautiful, they will also leave a minimal footprint on the environment, consume less feed, and produce less excretions,” boasts a pink lipped Tilda Swinton as CEO Lucy Mirando.
“And most importantly, they need to taste f*cking good.”
For 10 years, Mija (An Seo Hyun) has been a companion and caretaker to Okja at her home in the mountains of South Korea. But, when the animal is taken by a family-owned multinational conglomerate Mirando Corporation, run by Image obsessed and self-promoting CEO Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton), Mija must set off on a rescue mission. Her daunting journey to bring her friend home becomes complicated as she crosses paths with groups of capitalists, demonstrators and consumers, each battling to control the fate of Okja.
Okja stars Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine), Hee-Bong Byun (The Host), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Lily Collins (Stuck in Love),
Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko) and An Seo Hyun (The Housemaid) as Mija. The film will make its worldwide premiere at the 70th Cannes Film Festival and will be the closing night film at the Sydney Film Festival.
Okja launches globally on Netflix on June 28. Check out the trailer below:
