From the makers of HBO‘s The Wire, comes the grimy new series, The Deuce, exploring the rough and tumble world of New York’s Time Square and the billion-dollar American sex industry.
Set in the early 1970s through to the mid-1980s, The Deuce explores some pretty dark themes. The rise of HIV, and the realestate booms and busts as a result of violence, the drug epidemic, and the fruition of the porn industry.
Created by The Wires’ Primetime Emmy-nominated George Pelecanos and David Simon, the show features an all-star cast. James Franco will follow in the footsteps of Fargo‘s season three lead, Ewan Mcgregor, taking on two roles in the upcoming series. Franco (127 Hours) is cast as twin porn kings Vincent and Frankie Martino, who become fronts for the Mob. Maggie Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko) will take on the role of Eileen ‘Candy’ Merrell a Times Square sex worker drawn to the shiny new porn industry.
The short 0:26-second teaser doesn’t give a whole lot away about the upcoming series. It does, however, give us a sneak-peak into the show’s rag-tag 80s theme, that has a distinct Vinyl feel. We get a glimpse of the slimy and seductive era, trash-strewn streets, peep shows, and, some dazzling neon lights.
The Deuce premieres September 10 on HBO. Check out the trailer below:
