Have you ever fancied yourself a lover of sherbet lemons? Or perhaps you are intrigued by weird and fantastical magical creatures? Well if you are a teen between the ages 16 and 18, and 13 and 16, you’re in luck! An announcement on Pottermore has revealed that the filmmakers behind the Fantastic Beasts sequel are seeking five budding actors (no prior experience necessary) to take on the role of some wizarding world favourites.
That’s right, In traditional Harry Potter style, Warner Bros. Pictures is holding an open casting call to find the perfect candidates to play the powerful young wizards. The studio is looking for teens aged between 13 and 16 to play Newt, Leta, and Sebastian, and actors between 16 and 18 to portray both Gellert Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore. This isn’t the first time the studio has called on the public to find their perfect wizard. In 2006, a similar casting call led Evanna Lynch to score the part of a lifetime as Luna Lovegood.
What can we expect from the young versions of our favourite wizards? In Fantastic Beasts, we learned that Newt Scamander had a close relationship with Leta Lestrange. The pair were described as outsiders who never truly fit in at school, which drew them closer to each other. Dumbledore’s childhood was paved with tragedy. His younger sister Ariana was left mentally and emotionally scarred by an event which saw her attacked by a group of Muggle boys. Subsequently, his father sort justice for his sister by attacking muggles and was sentenced to Azkaban where he later died. In school, many believed Dumbledore was a muggle hating wizard just like his father, however, Dumbledore proved to be nothing like his old man.
