We have some bad news for those anticipating the return of the one-and-only Chloe Price from the narrative-driven game Life is Strange!
The debut trailer for the game’s prequel Before the Storm was presented at Microsoft’s E3 event, but many noticed that Chloe Price’s voice lacked its familiar flair. The game, which focuses on the life of sassy-punk Chloe Price during her best-bud Max’s absence, is heading to shelves without its key actress. Voice actor Ashly Burch (Horizon: Zero Dawn), has announced via Twitter that she won’t be able to reclaim her role as blue-haired Price in Before the Storm, due to her SAG-AFTRA strike.
The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike aims to improve working conditions for video game voice actors but has been unable to reach an agreement with many video-game employers. Unlike Life is Strange, and the upcoming Life is Strange 2, which will be developed by Dontnod Entertainment, the prequel is being developed by Deck Nine Games.
While many are disappointed with the news, Burch was inundated with tweets supporting her position, and thanking her for contributing in the stance toward better industry conditions. Burch received notable responses from Actress and self-proclaimed geek Felicia Day, as well as voice actor Steve Blum (Batman: Arkham City).
Hey y’all, to the fans asking – I wasn’t able to reprise my role as Chloe in Life is Strange: Before the Storm due to the SAG-AFTRA strike

Wait, so they hired non union actors instead of rehiring you? Am I hearing that right?! Whelp, won’t be buying that game. Sad. :/ https://t.co/VUeOwRu38i

There is a promulgated agreement available today. All they need to do is sign it. This doesn’t have to happen.

The voice actor’s union strike has been ongoing on since last year. Game developers have a choice to work with the union to bring about better conditions for their voice actors, or hire non-union talent. In this case, the latter won out. SAG-AFTRA have been openly speaking out about their stance using the hashtag
Ashly Burch announced that while she will not be voice-acting for the character, she did act as a consultant.
Life is Stange: Before the Storm will be released August 31, 2017. Check out the official trailer and first Gameplay video below:
