Warner Bros. has dropped a new trailer for Dunkirk! Director and writer Christopher Nolan’s (Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) latest venture is based on the Battle of Dunkirk during the Second World War.
Dunkirk centres around the evacuation of British and Allied troops. The film stars the likes of Cillian Murphy (Inception), Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road), Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Fionn Whitehead (Him) and Harry Styles in his first film role.
The gripping new trailer includes a voiceover that quotes Winston Churchill’s ‘We Shall Fight On The Beaches’ speech, delivered in the height of the war to the House of Commons on 4 June 1940.
“We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets; we shall never surrender.”
The film tells the story from three perspectives, soldiers in the air, on land, and in the sea. Utilising stunning visuals, short clips, a variety of sound effects including a ticking clock, and an intensifying musical score by Hans Zimmer, the suspenseful trailer will have you on the edge of your seat.
Nolan describes the film as a “survival story” because of the high intensity that does not necessarily focus on the bloodier characteristics of warfare.
Dunkirk will be Nolan’s shortest film since his 1998 début Following clocking in at 106 minutes.
Dunkirk is scheduled for release on July 21
