Randall Park, who is best known for his role on the sitcom Fresh Off the Boat, is set to join the cast of Disney-Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Jimmy Woo, Variety reports.
Joining Park in the follow-up to the 2015 film Ant-Man, is Black Mirror star Hannah John-Kamen. Paul Rudd is set to return as the film’s title hero Ant-Man, alongside Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne a.k.a The Wasp.
Peyton Reed will return as director, with Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari penning the script.
Plot information for the 2018 film has been kept under-wraps. However, in October last year actress Evangeline Lilly revealed that The Wasp would don her trademark suit in the upcoming film.
“An initial script has been created, but it has not been approved by the higher powers that be — the Feiges haven’t seen it yet. I have talked to Peyton [Reed] about where they’re headed and what they want to focus on. I’m excited because it’s essentially going to be the origin of The Wasp. Of course, we’ll get to see the Wasp take on the mantle for the first time, and put on the suit and fly about and do her thing”
Reed also revealed a snippet of information about the upcoming film in an interview with Modern Myth Media.
“It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.”
With a budget of $130 million USD, Ant-Man grossed $519 million worldwide when it was released in 2015.
American comedian Randall Park is also known for his roles in The Interview, Veep and Trainwreck.
