The first trailer for Universal Pictures and Focus Feature‘s Winston Churchill biopic, Darkest Hour, has landed online. The film sees Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman tackle the role of Churchill, with an incredible transformation.
Darkest Hour explores the true story which begins on the eve of World War II. Within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Churchill must negotiate a peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or stand firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation. Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.
The first trailer for the feature shows off an incredible transformation, as Oldman disappears behind his new-found resemblance to Churchill, thanks to some life-like practical effects. Oldman is joined by Oscar nominated Kristin Scott Thomas (Mission: Impossible) as Clementine Churchill, Lily James (Baby Driver), Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones), Ronald Pickup (The Mission) and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One).
Darkest Hour is directed by Joe Wright (Hanna, Pride & Prejudice) from a script penned by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything).
The 2:30 sneak-peak gives a brief glimpse of the 2018 release, which has some commenters predicting an Oscar-worthy performance from Oldman.
After watching Darkest Hour trailer 20 times, I can’t wait to watch the movie in November – Start engraving Gary Oldman’s name on the Oscar.
