Universal Pictures has released the sinister first trailer for the cold-blooded crime-thriller The Snowman. Based on the best-selling novel by Norwegian crime-writer Jo Nesbø, the first trailer for the upcoming film depicts a series of bloody murders committed by a serial killer with a fascination for building snowmen — and no, we aren’t talking about Olaf here.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Michael Fassbender (X-Men series), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Independence Day: Resurgence) and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash).
Directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) the film follows an elite crime squad’s lead detective (Fassbender), who is investigating the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter. Fearing that an elusive serial killer may be active again, the detective teams up with a brilliant recruit (Ferguson), to connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one, in the hopes to outwit the unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.
The snowman is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (The Theory of Everything, Les Misérables), as well as Robyn Slovo (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Piodor Gustafsson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The thriller is executive produced by Nesbø, Niclas Salomonsson, Martin Scorsese, Alfredson, Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger.
A warning to those of you with a light stomach – the trailer depicts some gruesome head-chopping that may cause an aversion to the humble snowman. Do you want to build a …NO.
The Snowman hits theatres October 13. Check out the trailer below:
