Netflix has announced a brand-new adult animated comedy from Matt Groening, the genius behind The Simpsons and Futurama.
The fantasy series titled Disenchantment takes place in a crumbling medieval kingdom dubbed ‘Dreamland’. The show will follow the misadventures of a hard-drinking young princess named Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the trio will encounter a series of unusual characters from ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, to slightly less fantastical creatures such as walruses and the ever abundant human fool.
The twenty episode series will feature the voice talent of Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) who will play Bean, Nat Faxon (The Way Way Back) as Elfo, and Eric Andre (Man Seeking Woman) as Luci. The series will also future well-known voice artists John DiMaggio (Jake, Adventure Time, Bender, Futurama), Billy West (Philip J. Fry, Futurama), Maurice LaMarche (Morbo, Futurama), Tress MacNeille (Dolph, The Simpsons), and David Herman (Scruffy, Futurama). The animation is developed by Rough Draft Studios, who are known for Futurama and The Simpsons Movie.
“Ultimately,” says Matt Groening, “Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
Disenchantment will premiere on Netflix ten episodes at a time, starting in 2018. The show is produced by The ULULU Company for Netflix, with Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein (The Simpsons, Futurama) serving as executive producers.
Other voice actors include Matt Berry (Moon), Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher (Arthur Christmas), Noel Fielding (The Mighty Boosh) and Lucy Montgomery (Sword Coast Legends).
Matt Groening’s newest fantasy comedy series Disenchantment will make its way to Netflix in 2018.
