Ron Howard has taken to Twitter to dish out more details about the standalone Han Solo movie.
Since taking over production of the untitled Star Wars film in June, the director has teased fans with behind the scenes photos, glimpses from set, and casting sneak peaks, including this one of Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, The Avengers).
Now, the director has tweeted out more exciting news – this time revealing that cult favorite characters ‘Tag and Bink’ from the spoof Star Wars comics published by Dark Horse, are finally going to be made canon.
The comedic duo Tag Greenley and Bink Otauna appear in a series of comic books created by Kevin Rubio. Tag, who is from the planet Corellia, and Bink from Alderaan, are Jedi in training who haphazardly cause all the pivotal events in the Star Wars universe. Following the success of the non-canon pair in shorts that appeared in Star Wars Tales and Dark Horse, Lucasfilm commissioned Rubio to take on a two-part original series Tag & Bink Are Dead 1 and Tag & Bink Are Dead 2. The stories are loosely based on a play that centers around the lives of two minor characters in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
The film’s screenwriter, John Kasdan, who will be cast as one of the Imperial officers alongside Toby Hefferman, the film’s Second Unit Director, later confirmed the news. In response to the comic book creator, he Tweeted, “Thank You, Kevin. I’m a huge fan and I had to get ’em in there, and then had to play it myself (with Toby Hefferman) to do it justice.”
