Razer is taking mobile gaming to the next level with their first spec-heavy Android phone

Razer is looking beyond computer and console gaming, turning their attention to mobile.

That’s right, the gaming giant-Razer has just announced their first smartphone, and it is a powerhouse. Designed to take personal entertainment to the next level, the spec-heavy beast is ready to make your mobile gaming dreams a reality.

Unlike most smartphones on the market, The Razer Phone features no curves with sharp 90-degree corners fitted onto its 8-mm-thin aluminium body. While it might not be the most elegant in design – it’s what is under the hood that counts. The phone is equipped with a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, which puts it in the same league as many of the latest high-end Android smartphones. In addition, the phone features a whopping 8 Gigs of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 4,000 mAh fast-charging battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ which will keep it running all day.

The Razer Phone offers a 5.72-inch Quad HD IGZO LCD screen with the worlds first 120Hz Ultramotion display. The display will deliver the fastest refresh rates and smoothest graphics among the smartphones on the market today – the 120Hz refresh rate is the same rate seen in the Ipad Pro 10.5. In addition to providing smooth game ready graphics, the screen will deliver vibrant images with a wide colour gamut.

The display will be paired with two front-facing Dolby Atmos stereo-speakers with dual dedicated amplifiers and an audio adapter with a THX certified DAC. The attention to sound will allow for a more cinematic mobile movie or gaming experience. The phone will have a USB-C connector – so if you are planning to use the standard size 3.5mm headphones, you will need to use the adaptor provided.

The phone features dual rear 12-megapixel cameras, with dual-tone flash. The camera’s 13-megapixel zoom sensor will allow you to zoom from wide angle to telephoto seamlessly with a pinch of the Display. The phone’s front-facing camera is 8-megapixels with an aperture of f2.0.

What is it missing?

While the mobile comes with some impressive specs, there are certain things the phone can’t deliver. Buyers should note that the phone is not waterproof (due to its large speakers), does not feature wireless charging, and has a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter.

How much does the Razer phone cost?

The phone will set you back US$699.99 when it arrives in spring 2018. Unfortunately, no Australian release date has been set
