Netflix has announced that it will bring an original Godzilla anime series to the platform this year, in what will be the first high-quality animation of the iconic character. The animated series will premiere on Netflix worldwide, following a Taho theatrical release in Japan.
The series will have a star-studded voice cast including Yuki Kaji (Attack on Titan, AJIN: Demi-Human), Takahiro Sakurai (AJIN: Demi-Human, BLAME!), Tomokazu Sugita (Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure), Junichi Suwabe (Nodame Cantabile, Prince of Tennis), Kana Hanazawa (BLAME!, Psycho-Pass) and Mamoru Miyano (AJIN: Demi-Human, The Seven Deadly Sins).
The re-imagining of the iconic monster see’s Toho, the Japanese film, theatre production, and distribution company that worked as a producer of the Godzilla films, working with leading Japanese anime studio Polygon Pictures, who are known for their work on Knights of Sidonia and Blame! as well as Emmy-Award winning Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Transformers Prime.
The animated series will be Directed by Kobun Shizuno (Knights of Sidonia, Detective Conan), and Hiroyuki Seshita (AJIN: Demi-Human, BLAME!), with writer Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass, Madoka Magika) penning the screenplay.
“We’re looking forward to bringing a spectacular entertainment experience for both existing fans of Godzilla and people new to the franchise”, said Godzilla director, Kobun Shibuno.
Godzilla is Netflix latest addition to the growing slate of Netflix original anime content on the platform.
